Moving Through Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria As A Writer
How I've been moving through RSD and Exciting Updates
I started writing this devotional for neurodivergent adults in 2023. The purpose behind it is to encourage other neurodivergent adults that not only do we belong on this Earth, but God has accepted us and loved us since the beginning.
Over the years, I’ve had thoughts like:
“No one will read this.”
“Someone else is better qualified.”
“It’ll never be good enough.”
But I kept writing.
I’ve learned that instead of trying to ignore RSD, the goal is to move through it.
I think about the reason I started and how this devotional will help people.
I think about how maybe, just maybe, someone will pick up this devotional, read it, and realize that there is nothing wrong with them after all; they were just created differently.
Staying connected and remembering why I wanted to write this devotional in the first place helps me move through RSD every time.
My literary agent and I have been working so hard, and I’m happy to announce that this devotional will be published next year!
We’re in the editing stage, and every time I’m reviewing edits, I still get stomach pain and cry.
The RSD thoughts are still present, and when they come, I remind myself that the goal isn’t to bypass them but acknowledge them. The truth is, I deeply care about this devotional, so it makes sense that I feel scared about how it will be perceived. However, RSD doesn’t get the final say about this devotional, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.
Bible Teaching News
I’ve been working on a course that teaches Foundational Biblical Interpretation and Hermeneutics for over a year.
Every time I wanted to move forward with it, I was filled with anxiety and RSD thoughts. In June, I felt a strong push to finish this course. It’ll be published in August! I’ll announce it to you first!
Personal News
I’m getting ready to have surgery for endometriosis. It’s taken me over two years to receive this diagnosis. I’m happy to finally have found a doctor who listened and had solutions! Please pray for a grace-filled recovery.

The Notes app on my phone was chaos. Notion has helped me become more organized by creating spreadsheets, pages, and schedules. I highly recommend it for anyone, but especially neurodivergents. It’s a great way to keep track of and plan things.

Thank you for sharing this, Denea. I resonate with a lot of what you shared and am inspired to continue to press through the difficulty in a holy, healthy way. Big congratulations on the book and course! Praying for your surgery, healing, and continued work. <3
Sister, so exited for this devotional to be out in the world, it is so needed! I need it for sure, and I am one of the people blessed by what you share. So I want to affirm how much you matter and that your voice matters. Praying for you in this process, and I applaud your courage.
